The ARGOS/KINEIS system is a satellite-based system that collects and distributes environmental data from platforms around the world.
- Devices equipped with ARGOS/KINEIS-certified transmitters (called Platform Transmitter Terminals or PTTs) are deployed. These transmitters send out radio signals at specific frequencies.
- Argos utilizes a constellation of polar-orbiting, low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellites. As these satellites pass overhead, they receive the signals transmitted from the PTTs.
- The satellites record the data contained in the signals, including the transmitter’s ID and data. The satellites then transmit this collected data to a network of ground receiving stations.
- A global network of ground stations receives the data transmitted by the satellites. These stations then forward the data to processing centers.
- This data is then made available in .csv to users through the ARGOS WEB online platform.
